The beach has such a feeling of freedom and peace. It’s like just being there makes everything more calm and relaxed. The stress you are feeling seems to lessen and the rush of the world seems further away.
As I sat on the towel with sand between my toes… and literally every part of me, I gazed out on this island and wondered what it would be like to live on an island. Far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Would it be harder? Would it be easier? Would it be lonely? Would I care?
Being back in the mid-west and away from the water brings its own challenges and with the world in the shape it’s in, I feel as if I could separate myself from all of the chaos pretty easily, but one thing I have learned is that I need people, community, family, & friends to live my life to the fullest. Being isolated is not my jam. The isolation has helped me realize a few things tho. I am an introvert. I like being alone a good part of the day. I also love people and being in large crowds or on a busy street really gets me excited. Concerts, parties, festivals… I love them all. AND I don’t love to do them alone.
I could totally live on a beach as long as I had some companions and someplace to go to unwind. Years ago, before I had even visited a beach I used to go to a park, or a field and just be in nature. I loved the sound of the grass blowing in the breeze and the trees swaying to and fro. I loved feeling the soil beneath my bare feet. It was my escape and it truly helped me feel more grounded. You might even have seen me hugging a tree from time to time. There is just something soulful about being IN nature.
I know that the whole world is in chaos right now. I feel it in my bones. I see it on the faces of the people I meet and in the voices of those who speak. If I could do one thing it would be to add some peace and joy to everyone’s life.
Just know that you are not stuck where you are. The world is a big place and there are so many people who would benefit from hearing your story. You can do and be anything you desire. It all starts with one small goal, then another and another. Start adding dreams and plans and begin to get excited about where you are going.
Take the time to put your feet in the grass or the sand and let go of the things that hold you down. It’s time to fly!
